Former Director General of the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) Pavel Oimeke has lost a bid to overturn a three-year jail sentence imposed on him for receiving a bribe.

Oimeke was in March this year sentenced to 3 years in jail or pay a Sh1 million fine after he was found guilty of receiving a Sh200,000 bribe to reopen a petrol station in Oyugis town, Homa Bay County.

The trial Magistrate Peter Ooko said the prosecution had proved its case against the former Bonchari MP and that he had also betrayed the trust bestowed upon him as a civil servant

Aggrieved, Oimeke appealed.

He argued the bribery charge was not proven and that he was wrongly convicted.

In dismissing the appeal Justice Esther Maina said "I find the charge against him was actually proved beyond reasonable doubt."

After evaluating the evidence in the trial court, Justice Maina said the sentence imposed on him was within the law.
