A man has been arrested and a Ceska pistol with 21 bullets found on him in Parklands, Nairobi.

The same weapon had earlier been reported stolen from a home in the area.

The licensed firearms handler had reported at the station he found his safe broken and the weapon with an unknown amount of money missing.

The weapon was then loaded with 14 bullets, the owner said.

He also said a separate magazine with 14 bullets was missing in the Tuesday, November 28, evening incident.

This prompted an investigation that saw police comb the area in vain.

Hours later, police on patrol said they found a man with a bag in the area and stopped him.

Instead, he dropped the bag and escaped prompting a chase that saw him being arrested.

Police said they checked the bag and found the gun with 21 bullets, a wristwatch and mobile phones.

The suspect said he was a firearms dealer but could not explain how he came to possess the weapon and other valuables that had been reported stolen.

Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei said they are investigating the incident.

He said they wanted to understand how the suspect came to possess the weapon and his link to the scene.

“We understand the surveillance cameras at the house are not working but we are investigating the matter,” he said.

Bungei said they fear the weapon could have been used in criminal activities.

He added illegal possession of such weapons is criminal.

Meanwhile, police are investigating an incident in which a female taxi driver was stupefied and robbed of her taxi in an incident in Gatundu, Kiambu County.

The woman said she had on Sunday picked up two men in Kasarani who requested to be taken to Blue Post in Thika Town.

On the way, the men asked that she should stop in Ruiru to pick another man, which she did.

A few minutes later, the men wore facemasks and one of them sprayed a chemical on the woman.

She told police the men took control of the car and later abandoned her in a bush in Wamwangi, Gatundu.

Her Toyota Aqua and her personal belongings were also missing.

She later reported the matter at the Gatundu police station.

Police advised her to seek medical attention.
