Nairobi City Stars midfielder Newton Ochieng has been given the green light to resume training after weeks on the sidelines.
Ochieng was injured in the closing stages of the first half on Matchday Seven, against Shabana at Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay.
He missed four league matches but is now eager to rejoin the Simba wa Nairobi squad.
“My season hasn’t been either good or bad. The injury forced me off the team but I am recovering well. I have started training with the team which I’d say is a good start,” he said.
“I am happy now and ready to join and help my teammates in fighting for maximum points in our upcoming league games.”
Team physiotherapist Brain Otieno said Ochieng is ready to return to the pitch.
“He is now fully fit. He’s back to full training and I have since handed him back to the technical bench for consideration in our subsequent matches,” added Otieno.
Until the injury setback in Homa Bay, Otieno started all of City Stars six games.
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Julius Ombacho is targeting to make his Kenyan Premier League debut for Simba wa Nairobi.
Ombacho, signed in the offseason transfer window from third-tier side Launda Villa, admits there have been challenges after the big switch but is keen on putting the right shift to earn league games.
“I featured in Division One and now I am at City Stars. So far, so good. Collectively, we are putting our best foot forward in the league. However, it has not been easy for me. I came from the lower leagues and getting here means there is lots of competition,” he said.
“On a personal level, I am putting in the effort for consideration, to earn that top-flight debut, and feature in many more league games.”
Ombacho has made the Simba wa Nairobi squad once this season, where he was an unused substitute on Matchday Six, against Kenya Police.
