Gilgil Hills Academy shines in 2023 KCPE with high scores

Top pupil scored 427 marks with 23 others getting 400 and above

Gilgil Hills Academy recorded an impressive performance in this year's KCPE examinations, with the top pupil at the school, Emmaculate Wacheke, scoring 427 marks.

Wacheke expressed her happiness at achieving such a high mark, sharing that she had set a goal of attaining at least 420 marks and was surprised to have exceeded her expectations.

She acknowledged that the journey was not an easy one and targets to join Alliance Girls High School.

Kephas Mwangi, Wacheke's father, commended the teachers and stakeholders for their hard work and dedication in educating the students and contributing to their achievements.

Kevin Gichuki, another student from the school, scored 414 marks and expressed satisfaction with his results, acknowledging the support of his teachers and family.

As a member of the last KCPE cohort, Gichuki hopes to attend Alliance Boys High.

The school's principal Joseph Kihato, revealed that an additional 23 pupils achieved more than 400 marks and expressed his satisfaction with the results.

Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu on Thursday, released the results of the last cohort of the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE).

The CS said a total of 8,525 candidates scored 400 marks and above, with the highest student managing 428 marks. 

This the CS said is equivalent to 0.60%. 

For the marks between 300 and 399, there were 352,782 in this category constituting 24.29 percent. 

Further, Machogu said a total of 658,278 candidates scored marks between 200 and 299, with this he noted the results were low, as compared to 2022. 

The 658,278 constitutes 48.49% 

Additionally, a total of 383,025 candidates scored marks between 100 to 199, equivalent to 27.05%.

2,060 candidates scored marks between 001 and 099. 

"A total of 8,523 candidates attained a total of 400 marks and above, which is a drop from 9,443 from the 2022 KCPE exams."

A total of 1,406,557  sat for the 2023 KCPE exams.
