Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has confirmed that only two candidates for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Examination were involved in malpractice.

Speaking during the release of the KCPE exams, Machogu said the two had unauthorised examination material during their tests.

"One of the candidates had a mobile phone while the other had notes during their test," he said.

"Out of the 1.4 million candidates only two were involved in 'cheating'."

Machogu, however, said the Education Ministry will offer placement to all candidates who sat their exams.

The opportunities will be available in both public and private secondary schools.

"The ministry has developed a fair and transparent form one placement system that will ensure national, regional and social-economic balance is achieved," he noted.

The CS said the placement process will start next Monday, November 27 and will conclude within two weeks.

Machogu had last week said no cheating occurred during the 2023 KCPE exams save for six cases of attempted cheating.

"There were no cases of cheating. No cases of any kind of malpractice. We only had six cases which were only attempts to cheat. Out of 1,415,315 candidates, the only cases that we had were six," he said.

To check for the exam results, the CS said candidates, their parents, and guardians can access the results through the Kenya National Examination Council website, SMS platforms, county education offices and their respective schools.

For the SMS option, the candidates should send their index number, followed by the initials KCPE (in capital letters) to 40054 to access the results.

"Parents and candidates can get their KCPE results by sending the' results by sending their index number to code 40054. The SMS will be charged at Sh25."

The SMS platform is available for all mobile networks and will be charged Sh25 each.

This year, the council registered 1.4 million candidates compared to 1.2 million in 2022.

Also, this is the last year candidates will sit the KCPE exams as the ministry works on phasing out the 8-4-4 curriculum.
