President William Ruto on Tuesday welcomed Romanian President Klaus Iohannis at State House, Nairobi

Ruto and Gachagua were seen first having a tete-a-tete accompanied by First Lady Rachael Ruto.

They gestured their hands while eagerly waiting for the Romanian president's arrival.

Minutes after 11 am, Iohannis arrived at the State House with his convoy accompanied by his wife Carmen Georgeta.

Iohannis alighted from the vehicle and waited for his wife to alight before they could hold her hands and proceed.

The two walked hand in hand as they approached Ruto and other officials who were lined up to receive them

“Good morning Mr president good morning Madam! Welcome to Kenya,"  Ruto said as he greeted the couple.

Rachel Ruto also followed suit as she also welcomed her counterpart.

President Iohannis also replied with a good morning greeting saying “ Pleasure to be here!”

“You came with some rain!” I hope you enjoy your stay,” Ruto concluded before he could introduce the two to other government officials.

According to the Presidential Administration of Romania, President Iohannis will visit Kenya, Tanzania, Cape Verde, and Senegal between November 14-23.

In Kenya, Iohannis will hold talks with President Ruto and UNEP executive director Inger Andersen at the United Nations Office in Nairobi.

The visiting President will sign environmental and political cooperation, agreements and inaugurate a school and a Romanian development assistance programme donation.

Ruto earlier said relations between Kenya and Romania have been growing over time, making way for the exploration of opportunities in trade, investment and education.

“We are looking forward to escalating our ties to cover other areas such as tourism for the mutual benefit of the two countries,” the President said.

Iohannis's visit comes a week after President Ruto hosted his Czech counterpart, Petr Fiala.
