Love gone sour: Police probe murder of student by alleged ex-lover

Police in Kisii have launched investigations into the gruesome murder of a first-year student at the Kisii polytechnic who is believed to have been killed by a former lover.

The deceased is said to have been stabbed by a knife several times on her neck.

Police say the Thursday night incident happened at Jogoo estate in the town where most of students from the institution reside.

The suspect is said to have trailed Lucy Boke to her friend’s house and committed the act her over what has been described as a love gone sour.

The friend is yet to come to terms with what happened to her best friend who was to celebrate her birthday next week.

“From the information we obtained there was a brawl between the two inside the house in the estate before the murder occurred,” Kisii Central sub-county Police Commander Isaac Kimwele said.

"Everything in the room was scattered and there were stains of blood on the floor which is an indication there was a fight."

Preliminary investigation, Kimwele said, indicates the alleged suspect is a former boyfriend to the deceased.

He is said to have travelled from his home in Kuria West where he is on industrial attachment to come and meet her.

Police who arrived at the scene found the lifeless body lying on the floor.

They also recovered the knife with blood stains which is said to have been used to commit the crime.

The suspect, Kimwele say, was saved from a mob who was thirsting for his blood and taken to the hospital for medication before being booked in at the cells.

The body of the deceased was moved to Kisii referral hospital morgue.
