Ruto arrives at Parliament for State of the Nation Address

The address will come 14 months after Ruto became Kenya's fifth President.

President William Ruto has arrived at Parliament buildings where he is expected to deliver his first-ever State of the Nation address since taking over power in September last year.

He was received by DP Rigathi Gachagua and Speakers from both Houses, Moses Wetang'ula (National Assembly) and Amason Kingi (Senate).

The president’s motorcade arrived at 2:27pm as he was seen alighting from his car.

As journalists scrambled to take his best shot, Ruto was seen greeting leaders as he was accompanied by First Lady Rachel Ruto.

He took his position at the dias clad in a navy blue suit and a yellow tie as he waited for the next cause of action.

Ruto then inspected a guard of honour as the Kenyan and the East African community anthems were sang.

As he marched along the Parliament, security officials were seen taking their positions before he resumed his position at the dias before the Kenyan anthem was played again.

The address will come 14 months after Ruto became Kenya's fifth President.

Article 132 of the Constitution states that; Once every year, a report, in an address to the nation, on all the measures taken and the progress achieved in the realisation of the national values.

The address comes at a time when there are cries by Kenyans over the skyrocketing cost of living since the Kenya Kwanza administration took over.
