Embattled Meru governor Kawira Mwangaza has claimed that her deputy Isaac Mutuma is a beneficiary of an Okolea Program that forms part of the issues of surrounding her impeachment hearing.
The governor who described some of the videos that were showcased at the Senate said it was unfortunate that her deputy was campaigning against her 'Okolea' initiative yet it was the program that elevated him.
"My deputy governor was a 'prison askari', and this program was the one that elevated us to lead the county government, and, unfortunately, he is dismissing a program that elevated him," she said.
Mwangaza added that she had been running the program for 12 years around the county.
"In this video, my deputy is telling residents of where he comes from to reject the Okolea program as it's for the poor," she added.
From the video, she further explained his deputy told the people of Igembe not to accept the Okolea program.
"The program raised him from being askari to the deputy governor of Meru. He is demeaning the same program God used to give us favour before men and women," she noted.
She continued to explain that the deputy governor mobilised youth who were chanting songs, against her saying they would support her deputy for the gubernatorial position.
"That is my deputy governor with some youth from his area saying the governor does not have a home, and only does prostitution in the country. They are praising him to take over the position of the governor of Meru, because, I am just a woman before them," she explained.
The governor added from the video shared, she had been accused of not being a full 'Merian' but a Kikuyu.
"The MP is saying the father of Kawira is a Kikuyu and the mother is also from Kikuyu and they don't want to be ruled by a Kikuyu in Meru and they want to be ruled by a Meru."
She added that pressure has been mounted on youths by Meru leaders for her impeachment.
