Detectives are investigating an incident where a businessman was robbed of his pistol after a suspected stupefying at a club in Karen, Nairobi.

According to the Cambridge Dictionary stupefying is an act of making someone unable to think clearly, usually because they are extremely tired or bored, or have taken drugs

The businessman who is a licensed firearms holder told police he had on Sunday morning gone to a club and found a woman known to him.

They both had drinks before they left for his car at about 2 am.

Police who visited the scene confirmed from the surveillance cameras they saw the victim and two women walk to his car.

He had taken a bottle of water that is believed to have been stupefied.

And after entering the car he blacked out until seven hours later when he was woken up by the club security.

His Ceska pistol with 15 bullets, two mobile phones and an unknown amount of money were missing.

He was found in the car and rushed to the hospital.

Police then declared they had launched an investigation into the incident while searching for the weapon.

However, on Sunday evening, a strange call came to the wife of the gun holder with the caller claiming to be a taxi driver.

He said he carried three ladies from the club to Ruiru who alighted and left a black bag in the rear seat.

He checked the bag and realized it had a firearm, which he wanted to be sent back to the owner who is the husband of the woman.

The caller demanded Sh3,000 to be able to send the weapon to where she was which she did.

According to the police, the driver took the bag to a matatu conductor plying the Ruiru-Ruaka route and told him to leave it at the local police station.

The conductor, oblivious of what he was carrying was handed the luggage and Sh500.

He delivered the weapon to Ruaka where police confirmed it was the same one that had earlier been stolen.

No arrest was made then, as the conductor narrated why and how he was carrying the weapon.

Police said they are investigating the incident and efforts are being made to trace the women.

Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei said they are waiting for the victim to stabilize in the hospital before they take further action.

“Stupefying is criminal and stealing the weapon is illegal. We are pursuing the matter to the end,” he said.

He said they also want to establish the motive of the incident.

Cases of stupefying have been on the rise with authorities calling for caution on revelers.

This is because the crime has long-term effects on the victims.
