Posta Kenya services were interrupted on Thursday as workers held protests over delayed salaries.

The workers in several branches across the country held protests over their five months unpaid arrears.

"Tumechoka! haki yetu," they were heard saying as they walked down the streets.

Last month, the Communication Workers union issued a strike notice to protest the delay in payment of salaries.

According to the union, more than 2,500 Posta Kenya employees have not been paid for the last five months adding to the struggle of an already high cost of living.

The union's secretary general Benson Okwaro said over the last three years their members have been subjected to salary delay payment which at times runs up to six months arrears.

"As of now, the employees are yet to receive their June, July, August and September 2023 salaries while October is due in the next two weeks," Okwaro said then.

He said statutory deductions are in huge arrears.

The union also stated that many of the employees are suffering and struggling with house rent and foodstuff for their families due to salary arrears.

He urged the national government to pay the workers to avert a crisis and save the corporation from collapsing.
