President William Ruto returns to the Coast on a five-day development tour this week barely three months after a similar tour to the region.
Ruto was in the region in July this year.
The tour by the head of state which begins Wednesday will see him traverse the five counties of the region to launch and inspect completed projects.
A programme released by State House shows that the President will be in Kilifi to commission the Mwakirunge road in Rabai constituency before heading to Kwale on Thursday.
In the county, he will commission an electricity mini-grid at Wasini Island in Lunga Lunga before presiding over the groundbreaking and inspection of Shimoni fish port.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua will also accompany the president during the visits.
The head of state will later in the day inspect the Dongo Kundu road as well as the Mombasa-Mtwapa road.
On Friday, he is set to chair a cabinet meeting at Statehouse, Mombasa, an event that will be succeeded by a tour of the Moi International Airport.
During the same day, he is scheduled to preside over the taxpayers’ day and later issue community fisheries grants in the same county.
On Saturday, the President will be in Lamu where he will commission the Lamu East road before embarking on an inspection tour of the Lamu Technical Training Institute and the Bura Irrigation Scheme.
Also lined up in his programme is the commissioning of the Galole gravity water project and the issuance of community fisheries grants in Tana River.
On Sunday, he will grace an Interdenominational thanksgiving prayer which has been planned for Mombasa.
The head of state will wrap up his tour with an inspection tour of the Baricho water supply project in Malindi and commission the last mile electricity connectivity project in Ganze.
He will also tour Kinango Technical Training Institute.
The region is perceived to be one of Azimio leader Raila Odinga’s key throttlehold and has over the years rallied behind him.
Ruto has slowly been making inroads by dolling goodies to wrest it and gain control ahead of the next polls.
In Mombasa for example, Raila had 161, 015 votes compared to Ruto’s 113, 700 in the 2022 general election.
In Kwale, as Raila obtained 125, 541 votes, Ruto managed 51, 918 whereas in Kilifi Raila got 204, 536 votes as Ruto managed 77, 331 votes.
In Tana River, Raila got 51, 390 with Ruto coming closely with 41, 505 votes while in Lamu, Raila had 26, 160 as Ruto got 22, 876 votes.
