Yoyo is saving me! Lupita Nyong'o says of pet after breakup

Actress Lupita Nyong'o has introduced her new companion to the world a week after she announced her breakup from her boyfriend Selema Masekela. 

The star took to her social media account to share the news revealing she has historically been afraid of cats but opted to adopt one when her life was recently altered. 

"It may look like I saved Yoyo, but really, Yoyo is saving me."

"A little voice whispered to me that it was time to embrace change and new possibilities. So, a dear friend who held my hand through the process and took me to visit my first animal shelters," part of the post read. 

"I fostered Yoyo, and three days into it, I knew I could not give him up."

Lupita went on to describe the cat as a pet who loves company, his food, and is extremely careful, and rarely drops things. 

"He is very picky about his wand toys, only drinks running water and cannot be trusted around supplements," she added. 

"I never understood people whose phones were full of photos and videos of their pets - now I am one of those people!"

The award-winning actress had on October 19, announced her breakup with her boyfriend saying she was publicly dissociating herself from Masekela as she could no longer trust him.

“There are much more important things going on in the world right now, and my thoughts are with those who are deeply suffering. At this moment, it is necessary for me to share a personal truth and publicly dissociate myself from someone I can no longer trust,” an Instagram post read. 

Lupita added that she has found herself in a season of heartbreak because of a love suddenly and devastatingly extinguished by deception.

"I am tempted to run into the shadows and hide, only to return to the light when I have regained my strength enough for me to say, “Whatever, my life is better this way.”
