Digital taxi-hailing app Bolt has suspended the driver involved in an incident act that occurred on Monday.

The company said it reiterated its zero-tolerance policy on any driver or rider misconduct on its platform.

"Bolt has suspended the driver involved in the incident from further offering any services on its platform," the statement read.

Country manager Linda Ndungu said Bolt has encouraged its users to utilise its safety support and reporting mechanisms that are available in-app.

“As part of our commitment to safety, we persistently pursue innovation and allocate resources towards improving our safety features, all while enhancing our driver verification procedures. Our goal is to ensure the presence of high-quality drivers on our platform."

Ndungu further said Bolt is committed to providing safe and secure mobility solutions to all.

In the video that has circulated online, the driver allegedly showed his private parts to the female customer who immediately ordered him to stop the vehicle so that she could alight.

The customer was heard asking the driver why he was undressing and asked her colleague to get out of the vehicle saying the river was naked.

"Why are you undressing? Drop me there, alight this man is naked," she said.

The incident received condemnation on Social Media with former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko writing to the company, threatening to take legal action over the matter.

Through his lawyer, Sonko alleged that the driver committed a sexual offence against two females, asking Bolt to take action.

"As the former Governor of Nairobi County, our client has a duty of care to protect the citizens and residents of Nairobi County, especially the youth who are a marginalised group, which is the group in which the victims fall under in this unfortunate event," the letter reads in part.
