A team of police officers manning a roadblock in the Godama area, Marsabit county recovered two AK47 rifle magazines, a sword and Sh82,000 from four suspects.

The four suspects were riding on a motorcycle when they were stopped on Monday night, police said.

A search on them led to the recovery of one AK47 empty magazine, one magazine loaded with 11 rounds of 7.62mm special, a sword and Sh82,900.

The four told police they were ferrying the items to a source who is being sought.

The incident happened along Odda-Bute road in Godama area, police said.

The highway is usually classified as a hot point for human, narcotics and gun trafficking.

Police headquarters say more attention is being paid to the region to stop other crimes in the city and other places.

"If you can stop trafficking of guns and narcotics at that point you would have solved many other problems," said an official aware of the crackdown.
