Detectives at Kitengela police station are holding a police officer who is said to have stolen valuables worth Sh70,000 from a foreigner.

The officer identified is said to have picked the items from a house belonging to a Nigerian national in the Athi River area.

A police report states that the house had been cordoned off as a crime scene following an incident of a sudden death.

According to the report, the complainant identified as Lawrence Akinola had accommodated the man ( now deceased) in his house when he suddenly collapsed.

"The officer had been sent to assist in processing a crime scene," it states in part.

Following the conclusion of the probe, the foreigner found the items missing from the house forcing him to report the matter.

“The crime investigation officer was questioned and it was established that he had the laptop in his office,” it states.

He led the officers to recover the iPhone which he had already sold within Kitengela town, it adds.

At the time of the arrest, it states, the officer was drunk.

“The laptop and iPhone were recovered and kept as exhibits, inventory drawn and both positively identified by the complaint,” it says.

He is now under custody pending arrangement in Court.
