KEBS pick three for Managing Director job

The three were picked from a list of eight candidates who had been interviewed for the position

The Kenya Bureau of Standards (KBS) board has recommended three candidates for appointment as the new managing director.

They include current acting Managing Director Esther Ngari, Director of Quality Assurance and Inspection Geoffrey Muriira and Moses Sudi Otoa.

The three were picked from a list of eight candidates who had been interviewed for the position.

An extract of minutes of the National Standards Council (NSC) meeting held Saturday shows that Otoa emerged in position one with a score of 78.78 

Ngari followed with 77.22 while Muriira obtained 68.33.

"At a special meeting held on October 13 at Windsor Hotel, NSC resolved to adopt the following scores for the interviewees," reads the statement seen by the Star signed by board chair Peter Munyiri.

Others were Mugambi Kaberia who came forth with a score of 53.78, Wawru Karanja (51.33), Luka Kipchumba (50.78), Gordon Onkjire (46.56) and Bruno Linviru.

The Council is the policy-making body for supervising and controlling the administration and financial management of the bureau.

The list of the candidates has now been forwarded to Trade Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano who will then pick one to head the agency.

The office holder will replace Benard Njiraini who is currently on suspension. In his place, Ngari was appointed on an acting capacity.

Ngari previously served as the Director of Standards Development and Trade.

She has also worked as the Quality Assurance, Research and development manager at the Kenya Meat Commission and as a Quality assurance departmental head at Delmonte Kenya. 

Muriira who is one of those likely to be considered owing to his experience has served in various capacities.

He has held the position of principal research officer, chief manager at the Testing services department, and has also held that of the regional manager in charge of the North Rift region.

Prior to his appointment to the current position, he was the chief manager, of research and development.
