Lang'ata MP Phelix Odiwuor aka Jalang'o has criticised Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong'o and his Kakamega counterpart Ferdinand Barasa's demand for Africa Cup of Nations matches to be held in their counties.

"Forget about Eldoret, Kisumu or Kakamega hosting AFCON, is Nairobi even ready? If we host the opening ceremony do you know we will need 32 top hotels to host the participating nations? and Fans?" Jalang'o asked.

The legislator also questioned whether Senegalese superstar Sadio Mane would sleep at Kakamega Golf if his team were to play in the Western Kenya town.

"Kakamega asking to host AFCON, wapi? Mane atalala Kakamega Golf ama ValuValu?" Jalang'o posed.

The MP was reacting after Nyong'o and Barasa raised concerns over the proposed venues of the 2027 AFCON games.

In a joint statement, the governors took issue with the government's decision to pick Nairobi and Eldoret as the venues for the 2027 football showpiece.

They argued that the decision was tragic and that the government should have considered the Western region with matches in Kisumu or Kakamega.

The announcement for Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania to host AFCON games was made during a CAF executive meeting in Cairo, Egypt, chaired by CAF President Patrice Motsepe.

The East African nations beat Egypt, Senegal and Botswana to bah the hosting rights of Africa's premier football event.

In the bid, Kenya fronted Kasarani and Nyayo Stadium as their main venues while Tanzania picked Benjamin Mkapa and Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar.

Uganda picked Nelson Mandela and Nakivubo Stadium.

Algeria were also in the running until the eve of the announcement when they withdrew their candidature.

The CAF meeting also gave Morocco the right to stage the 2025 finals.
