The Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetangula has said Parliamentary caucuses promote inclusivity and diversity in the legislative process.
In a speech on Thursday where he was the chief guest during the launch of the Seventh Day Adventist parliamentary caucus at Serena Hotel, Nairobi, Wetangula termed the event as a key promoter of fostering dialogue since caucuses promote inclusivity and diversity in the legislative process.
"This caucus holds immense promise and significance. Parliamentary caucuses play the important role of fostering dialogue and cooperation among legislators with common interests and values, "Wetangula stated.
Wetangula expressed his happiness noting that the Parliament of Kenya has recognised the caucus alongside other faith-based caucuses that also include the Catholic Members Parliamentary Caucus.
He said in so doing, the National Assembly reiterates the nation's commitment to religious freedom and tolerance, which are fundamental to our democracy.
"It is important to respect the beliefs and practices of all religious communities represented in Parliament. Unity among parliamentarians, regardless of their religious affiliations, in the pursuit of common goals that benefit the nation is paramount," Wetangula said.
The speaker commended the SDA community for being a steadfast pillar of support in society, contributing in numerous ways that have positively impacted the nation's development.
He said the SDA's unwavering commitment to education, health, and community development has left an indelible mark on the fabric of society.
"This community's values of faith, compassion, and service have left an indelible mark on our society, and it is only fitting that we come together to acknowledge their dedication to the principles that unite us all, "he stated.
Wetangula encouraged the members of the caucus to actively engage in the legislative process, shaping policies, and laws that resonate with the values of its community.
He further extended his wishes to the caucus calling on the need to also celebrate the rich tapestry of contributions made by the SDA community to the nation.
