Weather update: Areas that will receive rainfall this week

Latest forecast however shows that the rest of the country is likely to be generally dry

Counties in the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley and the Coast are expected to receive rainfall this week.

The latest forecast by the Kenya Metrological Department however shows that the rest of the country is likely to be generally dry this week.

The seven days forecast covering September 19 to September 25 shows several parts of the country including the Coast and North-eastern will experience high average daytime maximum temperatures of more than 30 degrees Celsius.

The counties predicted to have occasional morning rains include Nyamira, Nandi, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Busia, Migori, Narok, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin-Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet and West-Pokot.

“Afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms are likely to occur over several places during the forecast period,” the forecast says.

Maximum daytime temperatures in Kisumu will be as high as 30 degrees Celsius with minimum temperatures reaching 12 degrees Celsius in Eldoret at night.

North-western counties of Turkana and Samburu are predicted to have sunny and partly cloudy nights.

“However, morning rains may occur over a few places on Tuesday and sunny for the rest of the forecast period,” the weatherman says.

Temperatures in Lodwar are expected to rise to as high as 37 degrees Celsius during the day and drop to 25 degrees Celsius at night with the temperatures dropping to as low as 13 degrees Celsius in Maralal.

Counties in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley which include Nairobi, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu and Tharaka-Nithi will record early morning cloudiness with occasional light rains over few places, giving way to sunny intervals.

“Afternoon and night showers are likely to occur over a few places during the forecast period,” the forecast says.

Maximum daytime temperatures will rise to about 29 degrees Celsius in Thika during the day and drop to as low as 08 degrees Celsius in Nyahururu at night.

North-eastern Kenya counties of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo are predicted to have sunny days and partly cloudy nights.

However, occasional rainfall is likely to be experienced over a few places on Friday and Saturday with Mandera expected to record high maximum day-time temperatures of up to 38 degrees Celsius.

According to the weatherman, Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado and Taita-Taveta counties will have sunny days and partly cloudy nights.

“However, occasional rainfall is likely over a few places on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday,” the forecast says.

Temperatures in Voi are expected to rise to 32 degrees during the day while in Machakos it will be 26 degrees Celsius before dropping to about 13 degrees Celsius at night.

The Coast counties of Mombasa, Tana-River, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale are predicted to have morning showers over few places spreading to several places on Friday.

Afternoons in the said counties are likely to be sunny paving way for partly cloudy nights.

Temperatures are expected to be as high as 31 degrees Celsius in Lamu and 30 degrees Celsius in Mombasa during the day.
