Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has arrived in Teso to officially unveil a new subcounty, Teso Central.

The subcounty was created after the split of Teso South subcounty.

The remaining portion of Teso South will be renamed Chakol subcounty with its headquarters in Adungosi while Teso Central’s headquarters will be in Amukura.

Kindiki, according to the program seen by the Star, during his first tour of the Teso region after his appointment to the cabinet by President William Ruto, will also oversee the operationalisation of Kamolo Division.

Kamolo was curved out of the larger Amagoro division, which was initially one of the only two divisions that formed Teso North subcounty besides Ang’urai.

Ang’urai was also split last year into two to form Ang’urai and Changara divisions.

The launch of Kamolo Division will happen after the CS has formally commissioned the new Teso North administration block.

From Kamolo, Kindiki will travel to Amukura where the official launch of Teso Central subcounty will be conducted.

He will thereafter hold a closed-door meeting with security teams as well as chiefs before addressing members of the public at Amukura market.

According to data from the Kenya Population and Housing Census 2019 report, Teso sub-regions – Teso North, Teso Central and Teso South have a combined population of 306,150.

Among senior government officials accompanying the CS include the Principal Administrative Secretary in the Executive Office of President Arthur Osiya, and Western regional commissioner Irungu Macharia among others.
