Deputy President Righathi Gachagua has reiterated his urge to leaders to serve Kenyans with humility, saying citizens are their bosses.

Gachagua said Kenyans deserve to be treated with respect and listened to all the time, more so during difficult times.

"All the leaders given the privilege to serve should do so with humility. We should have empathy with the people we are taking care of and respect those under us," he said

"If you serve the people of Kenya, those are your bosses, address them with respect and decorum. It costs you nothing."

The DP also urged leaders to remain calm and steady when addressing challenges involving citizens.

"That way, those who are victims of that challenge can feel understood and empathised. That is the hallmark of leadership," he stated.

He spoke during the 36th General Conference of the International Scientific Council of the Trypanosomiasis Research and Control in Mombasa.

Over the weekend, the DP had expressed concern that public servants were talking down on the very Kenyans they were supposed to serve.

The DP said while out of the country, he was still following closely the online spat between the Kenyans and public servants.

He said it is high time that leaders, particularly those whom Ruto has given the privilege to serve Kenyans, exercise caution in addressing the People of Kenya, whom he said are their employers.

“Talking down on the people and demoralising those who look up to them for solutions and a way out of the difficult situation they find themselves in is not good leadership. Please do not spite the people of Kenya,” Gachagua said.
