Two foreigners were at the weekend arrested for smoking while on a plane to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

They were detained upon landing at the airport pending their arraignment, police said.

The flight officials reported them prompting police action.

The first incident involved a Greek who was arrested at the airport for smoking on a flight from Mombasa to Nairobi.

Vaseleios Tzigkounakis was expected in court on Monday for the offence of smoking on board a Kenya Airways flight on Saturday morning.

He was detained ahead of his arraignment. Smoking is prohibited on planes.

It is not clear why he decided to smoke while on the 45-minute journey.

At the same airport, Dutch national Hamdi Mahamed Abdirahman, 27, was arrested also for smoking an electronic cigarette.

He was on board a plane from London to Nairobi on Saturday night when he was detained on arrival.

Officials warn smoking on planes is prohibited.
