Several counties are expected to receive rainfall this week, the latest weather forecast by the Kenya Metrological Department shows.
The seven-day forecast covering September 12 to 18 says counties in the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley are expected to receive morning rains over a few places at the beginning of the forecast period.
They include Kisii, Nyamira, Nandi, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Busia, Migori, Narok, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin-Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet and West-Pokot counties.
“Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are likely to occur over several places reducing to few places as the forecast period progresses. Night showers are expected over a few places,” the forecast shows.
During the forecast period, maximum day-time temperatures in Kisumu will be as high as 29 degrees Celsius with minimum temperatures reaching 18 degrees Celsius.
Counties in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley including Nairobi, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu and Tharaka-Nithi are predicted to be cloudy in the morning, giving way to sunny intervals.
“Afternoon and night showers are likely to occur over a few places at the beginning of the forecast period,” it says.
Maximum daytime temperatures are expected to rise to about 28 degrees Celsius in Thika and drop to as low as to 07 degrees Celsius in Nyahururu at night.
North-western Kenya counties of Turkana and Samburu will have sunny days and partly cloudy nights during the forecast period.
“However, occasional afternoon showers may occur over a few places during the first half of the forecast period,” the weatherman says.
North-eastern Kenya counties of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo will record sunny days and partly cloudy nights with temperatures rising as high as 38 degrees Celsius in Mandera and dropping to as low as 16 degrees Celsius in Marsabit.
The Southeastern lowlands counties of Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, and Taita-Taveta are predicted to experience sunny days and partly cloudy nights.
“However, occasional afternoon showers may occur over a few places during the first half of the forecast period,” the forecast says.
The Coast counties of Mombasa, Tana-River, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale on the other hand are predicted to be sunny during the day and partly cloudy at night.
The forecast however says occasional morning showers may be experienced over a few areas with daytime maximum temperatures predicted to be as high as 31 degrees Celsius in Lamu.
Maximum daytime temperatures are expected to rise to about 30 degrees Celsius in Mombasa with minimum night-time temperatures dropping to 22 degrees Celsius.
