A total of 183,719 students have successfully applied for University Fund and Higher Education Loans Board scholarships,  Education PS Beatrice Inyangala has said.

Out of the total, 125,000 university students have applied for funding while 60,079 students are from TVET institutions.

"In terms of Universities, we have about 10,000 students who are yet to provide their information," Inyangala said.

Appearing before MPs on Wednesday, Inyangala said they are still collecting data on students in order to validate and categorise them according to their needs.

She said one of the challenges they are facing is validation of data so as to categorise the students.

"This validation process is what has caused the delay. However, we anticipate that once we receive all the data from the university students, we shall be able to process and we'll have all the students categorised accordingly," she said.

She insisted that the portal will close on October 7 as per the deadline.
