A man who was attacked by the mob after allegedly stabbing six people on Wednesday killing two on the spot has been detained for 14 days.

William Mwathe Kamore had earlier been detained for 14 days by Kibera Senior Principal Magistrate Monica Maroro after police constable Geoffrey Mudeya filed a miscellaneous application before the court.

The incident happened three weeks ago at the Nairobi West shopping centre in Nairobi County.

While narrating to the court how things unfolded at the first incident the respondent was arraigned in court, Mudeya, a detective attached to Langata police station, told the court that he needed 14 more days to complete investigations.

Today he urged the court to grant him an additional 14 days to complete recording statements from some key witnesses, conduct the postmortem from the victims, and prepare a charge of murder against the suspect.

He told the court that the suspect while armed with a knife, randomly stabbed at least six people in the shopping centre.

Two died on the spot while others were left in critical condition.

"Some victims of the attack were rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital but two died on the spot.

"Two others are still admitted at the same hospital but in critical condition," he told the court.

He said that the suspect was arrested on August 23 after the police rushed to the scene.

"I need more days to conduct and conclude my investigations. I am investigating the offence of murder; victims died after the attack, two are in critical condition and two were discharged. The accused person is yet to record a statement and be processed for the said offence," he added.

Mudeya told the court that if the accused person is released, he may be lynched by members of the public who are baying for his blood.

"We rushed to the scene after the attack where we found that the suspect was being lynched by the public and we rescued him. Releasing him back to the public can endanger his life," he added.

The suspect did not object to his detention but told the court that he was badly attached by the mob.

"Look at my leg, hand and head. They wanted to kill me. I never went with the knife to attack them," he said.

The court directed that the matter be mentioned after 14 days for further directions.
