Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has explained why he never attends events graced by President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua in Nairobi County.
According to Sifuna, he cannot sit in a gathering where every person who takes to the podium hurls abusive words at his party and his party leader Raila Odinga.
The Senator who spoke on Tuesday said the current administration likes to play with the minds of Kenyans through perceptions and that is why they like to have leaders from other parties accompany them for events.
"Mimi kama katibu mkuu wa chama nitaketi aje katika mkutano ambao kila msemi anaposimama kazi ni kumtusi Baba, kutusi chama cha ODM. Damu yangu huchemka sana siwezi keti pale niskie ukitusi chama changu, unaita Baba mzee wa vitendawili na nimeketi hapo napiga makofi.
"Alafu ripoti zitakazo toka pale kwa vyombo vya habari ni ati Rais aliambatana na viongozi wa vyama vyote akiwemo katibu mkuu wa chama cha ODM kwa sababu wanajua wanachokifanya katika akili za wananchi," Sifuna said on Radio 47.
This loosely translates to, "As the secretary general of the party (ODM) how can I sit in a meeting where every speaker hurls insults at Baba (Raila Odinga) and the ODM party. My blood boils fast and I can't sit and listen to you abuse my party and party leader and I clap for you. Then reports in the news will say the president was accompanied by leaders from all political parties including ODM SG. They know what they are doing in the minds of the people."
The Nairobi senator has never attended an event graced by President William Ruto in the county.
This includes development projects that have seen several elected leaders from the Opposition parties attend.
