Bondo MP Gideon Ochanda now says it is unfair for the ODM party to expel him alongside four others for working President William Ruto.

The lawmaker told the Star on Thursday that the perceived rebel MPs who have also been expelled including Elisha Odhiambo (Gem), Caroli Omondi (Suba South), Phelix Odiwuor Kodhe (Lang’ata) and Kisumu Senator Tom Ojienda have done nothing wrong in working with President Ruto.

"What the party is doing is unfair. To us there is no mistake that we have ever done, visiting President William Ruto is not a mistake, going to State House is not a mistake’’ Ochanda told the Star.

The legislator accused the Raila Odinga-led party of not being democratic saying they will challenge the move using available legal mechanisms.

"If the party insists on that route, we will have no choice but to challenge it from every level that is going to be available to us," MP Ochanda added.

Ochanda termed the process of expelling them as that which was done in a shoddy manner as they were denied an opportunity to be heard.

"They called for a meeting in the party offices. We refused. They called for another meeting at a hotel on a date that was not agreeable to some us. We sent our lawyers but they were denied audience," Ochanda said.

ODM National Executive Committee kicked out the five MPs accusing them of advancing the interests of other parties contrary to the party’s constitution.

"Members facing allegations of violation of Article 11 (1) (e) of the party constitution and section 14A of the Political Parties Act 2011 by openly associating with and supporting activities of a rival political party and opposed lawful decisions/resolutions made by the party organs, be deemed to have resigned from the party," read the statement.

"The party is hereby directed to commence the process of removing them from the register of the party."
