Leaders from across the political divide were on Sunday night united for a moment following a spectacular performance by Mary Moraa in the 800m final.

Moraa floored Athing Mu and Keely Hodgikson to win a third gold medal for Kenya as the curtains came down on the competition.

The World Athletics Championships in Budapest ended Sunday with Kenya bagging three gold to emerge in position five.

Moments after President William Ruto congratulated her, Opposition leader Raila Odinga posted a clip heaping praises at the athlete.

"Mary Moraa takes one giant leap for Kenya. Bravo!" Raila wrote.

Ruto termed the performance as "phenomenal".

"Kenya celebrates you," he said.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on his part said her phenomenal win captures her grit and determination to be among the best athletes the country has ever produced.

"What a superb run by Mary Moraa to clinch the gold in 800m in the World Athletics Championships in Budapest," he said.

He added, "Thanks a lot for another gold for Kenya, Mary".

Kenya got a total of 10 medals with three silver and four bronzes.

First lady mama Rachel Ruto applauded her hard work, resilience and countless hours of training that led to this well-deserved victory.

"Well done Moraa!" she wrote on her social media pages.

Kisii Governor Simba Arati said "Indeed, you have done Kisii County and the Country proud for emerging the best in the hotly contested race."

"You have proudly hoisted our beautiful flag high, yet again," Sports cabinets secretary Ababu Namwamba said.

Former IEBC commissioner Roselyne Akombe observed, "When all seems so dark, Faith and Moraa just turn things bright! Congratulations!"
