President William Ruto has arrived in Kakamega ahead of his five-day tour of the Western Kenya region.

Ruto was accompanied by MP Ndidi Nyoro during the tour.

The head of state was received by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and other local leaders including Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa and Senator Boni Khalwale at the Kakamega Airstrip.

Other MPs present were  Lurambi MP Titus Khamala,  chairperson of the Kenya Water Towers Agency Board Rashid Echesa, Didmus Barasa (MP Kimilili), and Malulu Injendi ( MP Navakholo).

The President is expected to launch various development projects in the former Western province counties of Bungoma, Busia, Kakamega and Vihiga.

The President is scheduled to tour Bungoma on August 27 and 28.

He will attend interdenominational prayers at Kiwanja Ndege and preside over the opening of the new Bungoma County Assembly building.

Khalwale said Luhyas are supporting the Kenya Kwanza government until 2032, a period during which, he said, the region must receive development like other parts of the country.

“We told our people that our region will not be the same once Ruto took over the presidency because we shall receive development like other regions and we expect this through to 2027,” he said.

Bumula MP Jack Wamboka said the leadership in Western expects the president to announce when his administration will complete projects that were abandoned by the previous government.

“We are aware that the head of state will tour the region this week, we shall welcome him very well but what we want from him is to give us a new sugar mill for Nzoia Sugar Company as he promised,” he said.
