Police are holding a woman for allegedly killing her two-day-old baby and throwing it into a pit latrine in Funyula, Busia County.
The 26-year-old was arrested after locals alerted the police that she had thrown the infant into the latrine.
Locals ventured into the latrine and managed to retrieve the infant's body.
The woman told the police that life was too difficult for her to raise her child, hence her actions.
Police say they are investigating the incident. She will be arraigned on Monday after investigations are complete.
"The body of the baby girl was moved to a local mortuary," police said.
Elsewhere in Faza, Lamu, a 20-year-old man was arrested after stabbing and killing another man in an argument over a 16-year-old girl who was sexually harassed.
The assailant is said to have confronted the deceased accusing him of harassing the teenage girl prompting an argument that went physical.
Police said the assailant pocked a knife and stabbed the deceased man identified as Mohamed Yusuf killing him on the spot.
He told police he was against the harassment of his kin by the deceased.
He was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
"The matter was moved to court where the suspect is expected to be arraigned," police said.
A postmortem exercise was conducted on the body before it was released to the relatives for burial.
Police said the report showed the deceased had a deep cut in the chest that caused the death.
In Shianda, Kakamega County, police said they are investigating the death of a man whose body was found in a house.
The body of Michael Omulaa Indimuli, 62, was found inside his brother's house under construction where he had been working as the caretaker at Emutetemo village.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy to establish the cause of the death.
