Bishop Thomas Wahome of the Helicopter of Christ Church has attributed the deregistration of his church to rivalry in the industry.
"I believe my enemies are using the office of Registrar of Societies to frustrate my ministry and me," he said.
"Mimi nimeshangaa kweli kweli. But I have sent my lawyer to the Registrar's offices to find out the root cause of the matter, and to understand why my church has been deregistered," he said.
Speaking to The Star on the phone, Bishop Wahome said he only learned of his church deregistration from social media and has never been summoned or received a letter on the matter.
Wahome also said his church has been preaching the gospel and has not in any way put astray its congregants.
"What we do in our church is to bring followers to Christ, we only preach the gospel, and nothing else," he said.
Wahome's church was among those that were deregistered by the Registrar of Societies in a gazette notice dated August 3.
"In exercise of the powers conferred by section 12 (1) of the Societies Act, the Registrar of Societies cancels the registration of the societies specified in the first column of the Schedule, with effect from the respective dates specified in the third column of the schedule," Registrar of Societies Maria Nyariki said.
Other churches deregistered were Pastor Ezekiel Odero's Newlife Prayer Centre, Goodnews International Ministries, Theophilus Church and Kings Outreach Church.
