Some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Rift Valley, the Coast and Northwestern Kenya are predicted to receive rainfall this week
The latest seven-day weather forecast released by the Kenya Metrological Department on Tuesday shows some parts of the Highlands West of the Rift Valley and North-Western Kenya are likely to witness storms.
According to the forecast, counties in the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley will experience morning rains over few places.
They include Kisii, Nyamira, Nandi, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Busia, Migori, Narok, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin-Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet and West-Pokot.
“Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are likely to occur over several places during the first half of the forecast period reducing to few places thereafter. Night showers are expected over few places,” it shows.
During the period, Kisumu is likely to record temperatures as high as 31oC during the day but drop as low as 07oC in Narok at night.
Turkana and Samburu counties are predicted by the weatherman to have morning rains and afternoon and night showers.
Thunderstorms are expected over few places during the first half of the forecast period.
Lodwar will experience high maximum day-time temperatures of up to 36oC.
Counties in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley which include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi and Nairobi will have cloudy mornings, with light rains over few places, giving way to sunny intervals.
“Afternoon and night showers are expected over few places. Maximum day-time temperatures will rise to about 28oC in Thika,” it says.
Nyahururu is predicted to have chilly nights with temperatures dropping to as low as 06oC at night.
North-eastern Kenya counties of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo will record sunny intervals during the day and partly cloudy nights.
During the period, Mandera will experience temperatures as high as 34oC during the day and as low as 14oC in Marsabit at night.
Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado and Taita-Taveta are predicted to have cloudy mornings before giving way to sunny intervals and partly cloudy nights.
“Maximum day-time temperatures will reach 30oC in Voi. Low minimum night-time temperatures of up to 09oC will be experienced in Machakos,” it shows.
According to the prediction, Coastal counties of Mombasa, Tana-River, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale are likely to have occasional morning, early afternoon and night showers over few places.
Temperatures during the day in Lamu will rise to 30o C and drop to as low as 21oC in Mombasa at night.
