President William Ruto has warned elected leaders to embrace peace and stop sabotaging the country with divisive politics.

Speaking during the interdenominational service in Taita Taveta on Sunday, Ruto said it is high time for leaders across the country to have human sympathy and stop involving youth in violent protests.

He termed it unfortunate that leaders were using other people’s children to engage in protests while at the same time protecting their own.

Ruto further noted that protests have not only led to disruptions in business and destruction of property but also injuries to both civilians and police officers.

“Kama wewe unaskia mtu abebe mawe aende apigane, patia mawe mtoto wako kwanza na bibi yako. Tukiona vile wanatupa mawe na vile wanakabiliana na polisi ndio tutajua kweli mahali imefika inahitaji hiyo kazi,” Ruto said.

This loosely translates to; "if you strongly feel someone should carry a stone to go and fight, then first give the stone to your children and wife if we see how they will confront the police then we can say that indeed others should join I".

This comes even as the Azimio coalition announced that protests against the high cost of living will take place on Wednesday next week.

Azimio on Saturday said the demonstrations will be for one day and will begin from 6am to 6pm.

This is even as the country struggles to come to terms with the effects experienced during the three days of protests called by the opposition this week.
