The Kenya Bureau of Standard has advertised the position of managing director to succeed Bernard Njiraini.

Njiraini was among a host of Kebs staff who were in May arrested and prosecuted over the irregular release of the consignment comprising 20,000 bags of 50 kilogrammes each of the sweetener.

The sugar had been declared unfit for human consumption in 2018 and earmarked for conversion into industrial ethanol.

Following his suspension in May, the Kebs board appointed Esther Ngari as acting managing director.

On Tuesday, the board advertised the position, heralding a search for the CEO of one of the country's most strategic state agencies.

Applicants have until August 9 to submit their applications.

According to the board, the candidate must have at least Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in either Engineering, Science, Technology, Commerce, Social Sciences, Education, Law, or any other related field from a recognized University.

The candidate must also have a minimum of 15 years of relevant work experience, 10 of which must have been at Senior Management level and must also have certification in corporate governance from a recognized institution.

The individual is also expected to have a membership to a relevant professional body, a Helb certificate, Tax Compliance Certificate from KRA, Certificate of Good Conduct from the DCI and a Clearance Certificate from an approved Credit Reference Bureau.

"If you believe you are energetic, highly motivated and have passion for excellence in pursuit of business growth and success please submit your applications," reads the advertisement in the local dailies on Tuesday.

"Submit copies of your testimonials, certificates, curriculum vitae with details of your current position, remuneration, email address, telephone contact information and three referees familiar with your qualifications and work experience."
