Lawyer Miguna Miguna has joined the expanding list of lawyers eyeing the position of the Director of Public Prosecutions, to succeed Noordin Haji. 

Taking to his Twitter page on Tuesday, Miguna said he has officially applied for the position scoffing off any sentiments surrounding his interest in the position.  

"For the avoidance of any doubt, YES, I have applied for the position of The DPP," Miguna said.

His announcement received mixed reactions from netizens.

"All the best wishes - Dr Miguna! You are an upright man," one user commented. 

The office of the DPP fell vacant on June 14, after Noordin Haji took an oath of office as the Director General of the National Intelligence Service 

Last month through a gazette notice dated June 21, President William Ruto constituted a seven-member selection committee for the recruitment of the next DPP.  

The panel which consists of Central Organization of Trade Unions boss Francis Atwoli and Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission CEO Twalib Mbarak had on June 29, called on interested persons to apply for the position.  

Others Solicitor General Shadrack Mose, Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission CEO Twalib Mbarak, Public Service PS Mary Kimonye and Central Organization of Trade Unions secretary general Francis Atwoli. 

According to the committee, interested persons have until 5 pm Wednesday, July 12 to apply for the position. 

Other legal practitioners who have joined the race include Cliff Ombeta, Kioko Kilokumi Katwa Kigen and Danstan Omari.  

Speaking of his interest in the position, Lawyer Danstan Omari said that he possesses the required qualifications for the position given his vast experience as a lawyer. 

"I don't think there is anyone who is more qualified than I am right now. I don't think there is anyone who can compete with me in the criminal space," Omari said.
