Senators to approve Turkana plenary sittings Tuesday

It will be the third sitting of the Senate outside Nairobi

Senators will tomorrow approve a Motion to hold plenary in Turkana County, it will be the third sitting outside Nairobi.

The legislators unanimously approved the sittings dubbed Senate Mashinani on March 14, 2023, but did not pick the host county.

The lawmakers will hold their plenary and committee meetings in the assembly precincts of the Turkana County Assembly in September.

While moving the Motion, Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot is expected to acknowledge successes made during the sittings of the Senate in Uasin Gishu and Kitui Counties in September 2018 and in September 2019, respectively.

He will further acknowledge the recommendation of the Senate Business Committee that a sitting of the Senate is held away from the traditional premises in Parliament Buildings, Nairobi, during the term of the 13th Parliament.

He will also note the resolution of the Senate made on March 8, 2023, to hold plenary and committee sittings in the counties for a one-week period within the month of September in every Session of the 4th Senate except during an election year.

“The Senate Mashinani will provide an opportunity to members and staff of county assemblies to learn and share best practices with Senators and parliamentary officers,” Cheruiyot said when he moved the Motion in March.

The Majority leader will also members to resolve to hold its Plenary and Committee sittings in Turkana County from September 25-29, 2023.
