Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has claimed that Azimio leader Raila Odinga is bothering his boss William Ruto for a handshake.

He, however, declared that the President is a very intelligent man who will not yield to such pressure to share his government.

"Our president is not a fool, he won't allow to bring on board the handshake people and destroy his government," Gachagua said on Friday.

The DP, who spoke when he addressed a roadside rally in Embu town, said the former prime minister has revived his schemes to sabotage Ruto in a push to share power.

He urged the opposition leader to reconcile with the reality that Ruto is the president after beating him in the August 9, 2022, General Election.

"That man of protests has started disturbing our President and wants a handshake, will you accept?" Gachagua posed.

"In any case, when voters rejected the man of riddles[Raila], they knew the kind of person he is."

The DP said he had urged the President to reject the manoeuvres saying the handshake was responsible for retired President Uhuru Kenyatta's failures.

"We have asked that man to take a walk to Bondo and leave us alone because that handshake destroyed Kenyatta's government," he said.

At the same time, Gachagua urged the people of Embu to ensure that President Ruto is reelected for another five years in 2027.

"When you have a good leader don't just give them five years," he said.

Gachagua, who is a key critic of Raila, has been claiming that the opposition chief is pushing for a political deal to join Ruto's government.

However, Raila has declared that he is not after a handshake with Ruto but electoral justice and a better life for all Kenyans.
