Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has said Chiefs and drugs cannot coexist.

Gachagua said it is either the Chiefs ensure there are no drugs in their areas or they be the ones to leave.

He spoke on Sunday at Isiolo Boys High School where he had attended interdenominational prayers alongside President William Ruto.

"The new policy guideline from our government is simple. Drugs and Chiefs cannot coexist in the same location. One has to give way," he said.

He said it is up to the Chiefs to decide who will remain as they are the ones with the reasoning capability and not the drugs.

"These Chiefs know where the drugs are. Even if they pretend not to," he claimed.

Additionally, he said there will be no transfers for Station Commanders who fail in the fight against drugs in their areas.

"Transferring the Station Commander is transferring a problem to another part of Kenya. And this being our country, we cannot transfer a problem from one area to another," Gachagua said.

He told Station Commanders to decide whether they were going to keep on fighting the drug menace or go for early retirement.

This is as the Deputy President plans to convene a meeting in the next few weeks with the Eastern Regional Commissioner, leaders and security officers so as to plan how they will combat drug abuse in the region.

Gachagua said he had received reports that the drug abuse situation in Isiolo is worrisome.
