Health CS Susan Wafula has explained why she settled on Andrew Mulwa as the acting CEO at the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority.
The CS who was speaking during the inauguration of the new Kemsa board on Thursday said Mulwa was her best choice for the position based on his performance as health CEC in Makueni county.
Mulwa served as CEC before being appointed as head of promotive and preventive health at the Ministry of Health and eventually as head directorate of family health in the changes Wafula made in April.
He used his position as the CEC to lay the foundation on which Makueni has risen to be the best-performing county in the country.
“Many people ask me why I settled on Andrew Mulwa; yesterday (Wednesday) we launched a report and one of the counties that was highlighted as having very good indicators on matters of healthcare was Makueni county,” Mulwa said.
“Many Kenyans do not know that the pioneer CEC for health for Makueni county was Mulwa and it is based on that skill and expertise that I settled on him to act in the position of the CEO to be able to steer this organisation to the next level,” she added.
The report released by EACC on Wednesday ranked Makueni County as the best in the implementation of healthcare projects in counties.
Makueni emerged the best with 93.6 per cent followed by Kisumu at 83.3 per cent and Migori at 81.3 per cent.
Mulwa in his capacity as the CEO of the authority will be an ex-officio member of the board that is chaired by former PS Irungu Nyakera.
According to the CS, Nyakera has experience in matters of governance having worked in both the US and Kenya. He was a PS in charge of national planning under former President Uhuru Kenyatta's regime.
On Thursday, the CS inaugurated the board saying she is convinced that they will clean up the institution and ensure Kenyans access health commodities in time.
