NSSF gets new board member

Labour Cabinet Secretary Florence Bore has completed the constitution of the National social security fund (NSSF) board.

In a Gazette notice dated May 17, Bore has appointed Mike Macharia as a new board member.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6 (d) (i) of the NSSF Act, the cabinet secretary of Labor appoints Mike Macharia to be a member of the board of trustees for a period of three years,” reads the notice.

His appointment takes effect immediately.

The appointment of the member comes a few months following the replacement of Julius Karangi as the board chair by Anthony Muriuki.

Muriuki was appointed by President William Ruto in December 2022 for a three-year term in the changes that affected various parastatals.

Karangi who was moved to the National Council for Population and Development (NCPD) was appointed by retired p+President Uhuru Kenyatta and has been at the helm of the NSSF since 2018.

NSSF is composed of the chairperson, principal secretary in charge of finance, labor, and seven persons appointed by the CS.

Those appointed by the CS include; two nominated by representative of employers’ organization, two nominated by representative of workers’ organisation and three appointed by the CS.

The managing trustee is an ex-officio member.
