Interior CS Kithure Kindiki on Wednesday was forced to use helicopters as he went about monitoring security operations in Laikipia.

In a video, he is seen alighting from one helicopter dressed in combat gear where he was received by senior police officials before being ushered to another helicopter waiting not far away.

Teams from both the National Police Service and the Kenya Defence Forces are conducting the joint Operation Maliza Uhalifu in Laikipia.

He will also visit the Naibor ASTU Camp in Laikipia North Constituency.

The CS is expected to visit National Police Reservist Stephen Murijo who was critically injured by bandits during the recovery operation before holding a closed-door meeting with security bosses.

The meeting will bring together Laikipia county security and an intelligence team drawn from the office of the County Commissioner.

In September 2021, the government declared Laikipia a disturbed and security operation area following a spate of attacks and burning of property by armed herders.

This was after it was believed that herders were behind the attacks on civilians and security agencies.

The gang was said to be hiding in gorges in the area and usually come out at night to graze and attack villages before retreating there.
