Azimio la Umoja coalition party has vowed to reject proposed tax measures in the Finance Bill once tabled in the National Assembly.

Speaking on Citizen TV, Deputy Minority Leader Robert Mbui reiterated that the coalition will not support any proposal to increase tax burden on Kenyans.

“We are opposed to increasing taxes on already struggling Kenyans,” he said, "Kenyans are already struggling to put food on the table.”

The Kathiani MP further called on their counterparts in Kenya Kwanza to support their stand terming saying it's in the "best interest of the voters at heart."

"It’s important for members of Parliament to understand that when in Parliament, they are there to represent the interests of those who voted for them but not of the Executive,” Mbui said.

He further said that apart from rejecting the bill, the party plans to amend some of its segments.

“...the 16 per cent VAT we will take it back to 8 per cent...the 3 per cent levy on National housing and development, we will reject it...” he added.

The MP said unlike in previous cases, Azimio MPs will not walk out of Parliament when the Bill goes to vote.

“This time we’re not walking out. On this Bill, we will be there so that we can explain to Kenyans and our fellow Kenya Kwanza counterparts.”
