Lugari MP Nabii Nabwera has advised Kenyans on what to do ahead of the approval of the Finance Bill.

Nabwera said voters should write to their respective MPs asking them to reject the bill.

“If your MP votes for the bill ensure he will never address any gathering in your constituency and flock to his home for fees, fuel and food,” Nabwera said.

Last week, the National Treasury submitted the Finance Bill, 2023 to the National Assembly for processing ahead of the approval of the 2023/24 budget estimates.

Nabwera is among Azimio la Umoja lawmakers who have promised to oppose the bill.

“Kenyans, be reminded over taxation kills the economy. We don't milk a dead animal. A Kenyan worker is already dead economically,” he said.

Nabwera reminded Kenyans to be keen on the day when MPs will be voting for the Bill.

“Be keen on the day of voting on your TVs to watch how your area MP will vote,” he said.

The bill sets down the revenue measures the government wants to implement in the next financial year, starting July 1.

Among the proposals is the amendment of the Employment Act of 2007, which will require employers to contribute to the National Housing Development Fund for each of their employees.

This will see to a deduction of three per cent of an employee's monthly basic salary towards the affordable housing programme.
