Eliud Wekesa popularly known as 'Yesu wa Tongaren' has pleaded with the police not to arrest him.

This is after he was summoned by Bungoma police commander Francis Kooli to appear on Wednesday for questioning.

Speaking on Monday, he said he has done nothing wrong to warrant an arrest, adding that he only spreads the gospel.

“I know even the police commander that has summoned me is a human being with wisdom. I understand he wants to talk to me about issues to do with my church and how it is being run,” he said.

“Maybe they are hearing things that don’t exist because I have been to the OCPD and OCS and I have no issue, I only preach the gospel.”

He said if he gets arrested they will only be picking on him because only those on the wrong side of the law are the ones who get arrested.

Kooli has summoned the leader of the New Jerusalem sect for questioning over alleged questionable religious teachings.

This comes even as President William Ruto formed a Judicial commission of inquiry to probe the Shakahola cult deaths.

The commission has been tasked with establishing what led to the killing of the now over 100 people in the church owned by pastor Paul Mackenzie.

In a gazette notice, the head of state said Lady Justice Jessie Lessit will chair the commission, together with sevens others.

The mandate of the commission of inquiry will be mainly to inquire into the deaths, torture, and inhumane and degrading treatments of members of the Good News International Church.

"The team will establish the circumstances under which the deaths and inhumane torture occurred," the gazette notice said.

The commission will also inquire into the factors that lead to the rise of that particular religious extremist institution and other formations that fosters negative religion-based activities.
