Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has said Kenya and banditry can't coexist as one must give way to the other.

Kindiki spoke while responding to queries from MPs in Parliament on the state of banditry in the North Rift on Wednesday.

"It takes a while because of the intricacies involved but we are on course and we will win the war. It is either Kenya or bandits, it is either the law or crime. One has to give way," he said.

Kindiki assured that Kenya will certainly not give way, and neither will the government nor the people of Kenya.

"Bandits, criminals have to give way," Kindiki said.

Kindiki said other than the military and police action to flash out criminals, the ministry is working on its intelligence to fight the cultural practice of banditry.

Kindiki said the ministry is working on improving its intelligence to work on intelligence-led security.

" We have made great strides in strengthening multi-agency intelligence sharing even within the organs of the National security, within the National Intelligence Service, National Police Service, other agencies that are involved with the security of our country, we are investing heavily on intelligence,"  the CS said.

Kindiki also declared the ongoing operation to end banditry in the North Rift a success.

The CS said security forces had managed to reclaim gorges and caves where bandits had turned into their homes.

"All these places, the caves, gorges and ravines, all others that were being used as hideouts for bandits have been cleared and dominated by security forces," he said.
