A security guard who allegedly stole items worth Sh5 million was on Tuesday charged with stealing contrary to the law.

Benard Ongeri Bangi was charged before Kibera senior principal magistrate Esther Boke.

He is said to have committed the offence on the night of March 16-17, 2023, at Mountain View in Westlands subcounty within Nairobi county.

According to the charge sheet, the accused person stole one truck chain for caterpillar D6R, one truck chain for caterpillar D6D and an undercarriage caterpillar frame.

He also stole one blade frame for caterpillar D6D.

All the items were valued at Sh5,046000 the property of Digital Den Limited, where he had been employed as a security guard.

He was charged with the second count of failing to prevent a felony contrary to the law where the offence of theft was committed.

In court, the accused person denied any wrongdoing and pleaded for a lenient bond term.

The magistrate granted him a bond of Sh300,000 with an alternative cash bail of Sh150,000.

He also directed that the accused person be supplied with all the witness statements and documentary evidence that the prosecution intended to rely on during the entire trial.

The court also directed that the matter be mentioned early next month for a pre-trial to set a hearing date.
