President William Ruto will on Tuesday preside over the release of the Report on Evaluation of the Performance of Ministries, State Corporations and Tertiary Institutions for the 2021/2022 Financial Year.
The event at KICC will be graced by Cabinet Secretaries, governors, Principal Secretaries, chairpersons and Chief Executive Officers of State corporations, chairpersons and principals of tertiary institutions.
Also expected at the event are performance contract coordinators in ministries, departments and agencies, development partners and representatives from the private sector.
Performance contracting is the flagship performance management tool that the government has adopted in the running of the public service.
Executive Order No. 1 dated January 6, 2023, domiciled the performance contracting function in the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary.
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi said performance contracting aims to ensure accountability in the use of public resources both at the institutional as well as individual employee levels.
He added that it also seeks to improve efficiency in service delivery by holding officers accountable for results.
“Currently, over 400 public institutions in the Executive are on first-level performance contracts,” Mudavadi said in a statement.
He further noted that the Judiciary is also implementing performance management through performance contracting and also a number of county governments and constitution commissions.
“This is a demonstration that performance contracting is an acknowledged tool in transforming our public service,” he added.
Every financial year, public institutions formulate and implement a performance based on their strategic plans, approved budget and annual work plan.
