Kiambu County government has acknowledged a major power outage at Kihara Hospital.
Kiambu County Minister of Health Elius Maina in a statement noted that the power outage has been caused by the ongoing heavy rains in the area.
Dr Maina noted that a team from Kenya Power has been dispatched to rectify the situation for immediate power restoration.
“The County Government Kiambu wishes to inform members of the public that Kihara Hospital is experiencing a major power outage following the ongoing heavy rains which interfered with the main Kenya Power underground power line cables," he said in a statement.
He said there is a backup generator at the hospital that is working 24 hours a day to ensure that patients continue to receive the best possible medical service without any interruptions.
“We anticipate that the problem will be rectified in three days," he said, noting that the hospital has the necessary resources to provide medical care even during the power outage.
Kiambu governor Kimani Wamatangi recently launched Universal Health Coverage and promised the residents of Kiambu improved health services with a particular focus on the provision of quality maternal and child healthcare services.
