Worker dies after wall caves in on him at construction site in Parklands

Multi-agency teams are investigating the death of a worker who was trapped by a wall that fell off at a construction site in Parklands, Nairobi.

The deceased was identified as Samuel Kanui, 25 and was among about 10 workers at a site when the incident happened on March 23.

Five other workers were injured, treated and discharged from hospital, police said.

The workers were working on a foundation of a house when the wall collapsed on them trapping the six and killing Kanui on the spot.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and further probe, police said.

And a 22-year-old man was electrocuted in an incident in Lucky Summer.

Witnesses said Owen Sigu was walking along Oasis Street within Lucky Summer at around 9 pm when he supported himself on an electric pole with a hanging live wire.

The wire hit him and killed him on the site. Police and Kenya Power officials arrived at the scene minutes later and moved the body to the mortuary.

Cases of electrocution have been on the rise and are blamed on illegal power connections in most informal settlement areas.

Police say up to two cases are reported at least weekly and fear with the rains coming more will be reported.

Meanwhile, a pedestrian was seriously injured after a billboard fell on him along Mombasa Road.

Timothy Nyarangi, 35 is admitted to hospital after the billboard fell and seriously injured both his legs due to a heavy downpour that was experienced near the General Motors area on Thursday evening.

Witnesses said the billboard fell off due to the rains trapping the victim.

He was rescued and rushed to hospital in stable condition, police said.

Officials from the county government of Nairobi have joined the team that is investigating the incident.
